Oh I know they wouldn't call it tithing, but it's plainly obvious this is a form tithing. If you agree to pay a certain amount to a religious institution it is the same as tithing (without the 10% rule). I know my brother is viewing it this way, which is interesting since he always (mostly apathetically) tries to spin the positive on everything the WTS does. Oh and Blondie according to my brother this is not anonymous.

Well let me restate this, I don't think he was bothered so much by the Society charging interest, just that they didn't want anyone else to charge interest when loaning money. That and if the usual question of , "if I have given 2,000 dollars to the worlds wide work shouldn't that cover the expenses?". According to my brother, these are legal contracts.

My brother called me today and said last night at the meeting there was a talk about building a new hall. They went over the 3% interest on the loan and all that jazz. Then they passed out contracts to individual congregation members. My brother said that the Overseer explained if each member gave 22$ a month they could get a new hall. He also said that on the form if you gave over 3,000 dollars it would be considered a loan but you couldn't charge interest. This evidently caused a big discussion in my family and it seems raised a lot of eyebrows. So I am wondering if this is common. It sounds an awful lot like tithing to me. I told him that they wouldn't own the hall just kind of be proxy keepers of it. He said he was going to ask around as he felt that the members owned it. He conceded though it would not be in the interest of the Society to give ownership to members. I know this, he sounded pretty raw over the fact that the Society was charging interest on the hall.

Because there is almost zero credibility on a message board, once you get caught in a lie you go to negative credibility. It's hard to rebound from that. Even if they lie has nothing much to do with certain subjects. It's just the way it goes on every message board.

If "everyone" were spiritual anointed it would mean that "Jehovah's Organization" is null and void since now everyone could make personal decisions. Afraid that will never happen.

Why do you sign your dead body over when you go to Bethel?
by new boy inthis is in response to the thread about the supposed suicide of a bethelite in 1995.. in 1970 when i went to bethel we signed a form stating that "if we died while at bethel the wathtower bible and tract society had the rights to our body.
yes, we thought it strange at the time but as a twenty year old you didn't think much about it.. i know of two brothers who killed themselfs while at bethel and two others who tried end their lives.
my guess is people have been killing themselfs at bethel long before i ever got there.

First of all are there any power of attorney forms you sign? If so then it would make some of the conspiracy theories plausible. Bottom line, if the society were killing people the cops would catch on at some point. Something would pique a M.D., nurse or police officer's attention. Could it have something to do with you living on the premises long term? If your living there 2 years there is a good chance you could die. If you have large numbers of people (over 10) that are at risk of death, then filling out a form for what to do with your body would make A LOT of sense. It just makes things much more easier and streamlined if an accident does happen. I would just like to add that without any evidence speculating that there is some man behind the curtain killing people at Bethel is just plain ridiculous.

Funny Car Group Story
by LayingLow inshortly before i began fading i was in a car group when a person was telling me about a diet they were going to do.
they started mentioning all kinds of scriptures and completely misapplying them.
i know this person, and they have a history of doing this in the past, so i said "seriously, you shouldn't twist the scriptures like that.

One time me and a friend went to the door where a women with a facial hair answered. This lady had a 5 o'clock shadow like you wouldn't believe. We got back to the car and just busted out laughing. It still ranks as one the most bizarre things I saw out in service.

I really want to call my Mom up and ask her why at the DC they got everyone's hopes up by making such a ridiculous statement as, "as for next years District Conventions theme? Well we will have to see next year won't we?". The speaker said this right after talking about how the end was so close! Then smiled while he said it (supposedly). My Mom was so excited. I told her then that the society shouldn't be making such ridiculous statements. Now I really want to say, "guess they don't have much faith in their expectation huh?".

Jehovah's Witnesses Leadership Accountable for Pedophile Elder David Porter
All speculation but still worth a look
Here is the full text if the link is not working....
Recently the UK press has reported that Michael Porter was convicted as a child molester with a long history of molesting little boys. Elders from the Mill Hill Congregation assured media that Porter would be “supervised” as he attended meetings and door to door ministry to offer bibles studies with families.
Mill Hill is one of the most significant congregations in United Kingdom, as it is the official home congregation for the Branch Office of the IBSA (International Bible Students Association). Porter is listed as a “Trustee” for the Mill Hill Congregation with the UK Charities Commission. You can read this information at this LINK . If you look closely at the trustees you will see another name listed in the Mill Hill Congregation, a fellow elder Ronald Drage. Drage is listed as the Chairman for the IBSA in UK. (See scans of information to confirm this scan 1 scan 2 )
The key administrative leader for Jehovah’s Witnesses apparently became aware of a pedophile that molested multiple children in his congregation. If he were to follow the directive (UKletter) that was sent out to all congregations in 2002, Porter would have been reported immediately by Drage or any of the other “elders” in the Mill Hill Congregation. Yet the media reported, “one of his victims threatened to go to the police”
So here we see the Watchtower Policy on Child Abuse is still being covered up in a scandal that goes all the way to the Chairman of the UK Branch of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Ronald Drage and his fellow elders that direct the work of JWs in UK will not answer questions or take responsibility for their actions. In the end it ends up as the title of the Panorama program described in 2002, “Suffer the Little Children .”

Dating and the ex-JW
by Layla33 ini am still surfing around this forum and i am happy to see there is are topics related to relationships.
it is nice to see this here.. to be honest, ever since i was out of the jw religion, i have tossed over ever dating an ex jw or an inactive jw.
i have occasionally come across this situation and weighed both the pros and cons.

I have often wondered about dating an ex-JW. I never have but it certainly feels tempting. I think the only way I would is if the person was serious about never going back. I would also let them know that if they went back it would more then likely have a very negative effect on my end. I certainly see a lot of the pro's outweighing the cons though. I feel a bit of a connection just with friends who are ex-jw's that I can't seem to find with my normal friends. Strange how that works.
